"We've built up an excellent
reputation over the years and
it's all based on the sound advice
we received from Ribble Valley
Enterprise Agency,"
says Barbara Walsh of
Longridge Teaching Centre.

Over 10 years ago, Barbara Walsh contacted Ribble Valley Enterprise Agency to ask for help in starting Longridge Teaching Centre. Barbara, who had 13 years previous experience as a college lecturer, says "It's testimony to the solid nature of Ribble Valley Enterprise Agency that both Pat and Aileen [Director and Assistant Director] are still employed there, providing the same excellent service for new business owners that I received in those early days. It's so easy to feel isolated when you're venturing out on your own, but they were always there to give friendly advice and support."

Once the centre doors were opened, Barbara found there was an immediate demand for the computer skills training Longridge Teaching Centre offered and the business grew rapidly. Barbara was joined by tutor Mick Gardner a year later. Since then, literally thousands of people have attended - some travelling astonishing distances to sample the unique style of delivery in the former Methodist chapel on Berry Lane.

In August 2002, the Centre became a Learn Direct Access Point. This enabled it to offer a much wider range of courses and, because most of them are government subsidised, the cost to the learner is extremely low and in many cases free.

Barbara comments: "It's great that we are now able to combine funded courses with our usual excellent service. We have built up an excellent reputation over the years and it's all based on the sound advice we received from Ribble Valley Enterprise Agency."
